Episode one of the series is set launch later this year on the Oculus Quest.
It’s been roughly five months since ILMxLAB announced Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series for the upcoming Oculus Quest standalone headset. Taking place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the episodic series will have users traveling to the lair of legendary Sith Lord, Darth Vader, located on the infamous volcanic planet of Mustafar.
A completely original story set within the iconic universe, users will use the iconic lightsaber to engage in a “canonical immersive adventure” taking place right after the events of ILMxLAB’s previous cooperative location-based VR experience, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire.
Beyond that, little else is know about this new adventure; other than it involves the Empire’s most feared general and will be told through an episodic format. Thankfully, it appears as though we’ll be receiving some long-awaited updates next month when Vader Immortal makes its way to the official Star Wars Celebration.
Taking place Friday, April 11th – 15th at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, the annual Star Wars Celebration is a massive spectacle in which both fans of Star Wars and its creators join together in honoring one of the most revered movie franchises of all-time and the massive impact it has as had in not only filmmaking, but our culture in general.
This year, ILMxLAB is using their time in the spotlight to give attendees their first taste of the highly-anticipated VR series. At 1:30PM CST Friday, April 12th, core members of the Vader Immortal creative team will come together on the venues main stage for an in-depth discussion revolving around the upcoming series and the details surrounding episode one–after which fans will have the opportunity to check out an interactive preview on Quest headsets. These brief demonstrations will be open to the public until the end of the celebration.
Written by David S. Guyer (EP and writer for The Dark Knight series), episode one of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series will be launch later this year on the Oculus Quest. No word yet on pricing or plans for multi platform release.
